INDIAN WELDING SOCIETY - REPORT ON THE 4th AGM

The 4th Annual General Meeting of Indian Welding Society was conducted on October 30, 2006 at Hotel Jehan Numa, Bhopal.
Shri K P Gera, Vice President (IWS) and Chairman (IWS, CZ) welcomed the members for the 4th AGM of IWS.
Shri M Kasinathan, Hon. Secretary, presented the Annual Report for the year 2005-2006. The highlights of the report are as follows.

  • Significant growth in the Membership.
  • International interaction with AWF, DVS, etc.
  • Various Knowledge sharing platforms organized by zones and centres.
  • Launching of two new centres at Ranipet and Mysore.
  • Successful conduct of 5th AWF meet at Lonavla, Mumbai, under the able coordination by IWS, WZ.
  • Welding education programme.

The AGM unanimously adopted the annual report submitted by the Secretary.
The audited accounts for the period ending March 2006 could not be submitted, due to the reasons beyond the control of IWS. Hence, a proposal was submitted to the AGM to submit the audited accounts in an EGM, which may be planned along with NWS 2k7, or any other national / international events. The AGM approved the same.

The AGM unanimously approved the proposal to retain M/s Praveen Kumar Gupta as auditor of IWS or the year 2006-07.

In his address, Shri S M Mahajan, President (IWS) his happiness that true to its federal structure, the AGM of IWS is being held at various zones, on rotational basis. The first AGM of IWS was conducted at Mumbai, Western Zone, followed by the 2nd AGM at Tiruchirappalli, Southern Zone. The 3rd AGM was conducted at New Delhi, Northern Zone and the 4th AGM at Bhopal, Central Zone.

He expressed his concern on our inability to submit the accounts in the AGM. Though, the reasons are beyond the control of IWS, an expedited effort could have been helpful to avoid this situation.

He complimented the central zone for its all-round performance during the last year. The novel idea of presenting the central zone secretary’s report through power point was lauded by the president.

He assured Central Zone all the help from IWS in establishing the proposed “Welding Technology Centre” at Bhopal. He suggested that, the approach paper being prepared by the central zone ca include the idea of conducting one-year certification course in welding.
He appealed the industries to explore the possibilities of developing women welders, the experiment which is taking roots at the southern parts of India, particularly at Tiruchirappalli.

He appealed to the IWS members to continue their focus on knowledge dissemination, industry – institute co-operation and international co-operations so that IWS can render an effective contribution in enhancing the technology on par with the advanced countries. He cited that the forthcoming Tech summit 2006 and the IWS 2k8 are few of the efforts being taken by us in this direction.

He resolved to create a strong IWS with devoted efforts for the cause of welding in the country.

Shri G. Uma Shanker, Chairman (Technical Committee) and Dr. S R Gollapudi, NC member, spoke on the occasion.

Shri N Rajasekaran, Joint Secretary (Admn) proposed the vote of thanks. He conveyed the compliments and thanks to the Chairman, office bearers and Executive committee members for hosting the AGM, which was attended by over 100 members, from various parts of the country.
